Yizel Medrano is a writer/producer at CBS 8 in San Diego and The 10 O’Clock News on the CW San Diego. She joined the KFMB-TV team in December 2021. Yizel writes and produces CBS 8’s weekday newscasts including the station’s 10 O’Clock news on Tuesday and Friday as well as the 11 p.m. Saturday news. Yizel has filled in and produced the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts.
Before writing and producing for KFMB-TV, Yizel worked as a news producer and digital journalist at NewsChannel 3-12, the NPGCO-owned flagship ABC, CBS, and FOX affiliate in Santa Barbara. There, she was in charge of producing two shows. At NewsChannel 3-12, Yizel produced the weeknight 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts. She also produced compelling newscasts for the morning, midday, prime time, and weekend news.
Yizel’s career began with an internship at NewsChannel 3-12. She realized during the internship that she was passionate about producing and landed her first job in the television industry as a news producer.
She has a Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts degree from San Francisco State University.
Yizel speaks English and Spanish. Being bilingual enables her to work efficiently and effectively in various situations.
In college, she worked as a producer intern at Spanish radio station 93.3 FM. KRZZ, broadcasting to the San Francisco Bay Area. She also volunteered in writing projects with San Francisco’s bilingual newspaper El Tecolote.
